This year, I decided to take my flower creeping to the next level and get a membership to the local botanical garden. I got the cheapest option, so it’s already paid for itself, and I got two free passes for friends (aka Pops)! 10/10 would recommend!
Back in early October, Kristin’s fam came to visit, and Pops and I met up with them there! They don’t live in PA, and it was so good to see them.
At that time, the Flower Walk was a gorgeous array of yellows, oranges, and reds. The leaves hadn’t started changing color yet, but fall was definitely the aesthetic, and I was living for it. I plopped myself among the flowers for some pics, as I had done in the spring (see blog sidebar photo LOL), but this time, it worked out even better because Kristin’s bf is a legit photographer! As he took the pic below, he was like, “I hope this makes the blog!” As Kristin would say, UH DOYYY! 😂😂
In case you didn’t know it was fall 😂:
There were a few dahlias scattered about, but for some reason, they were in areas you couldn’t really access. Wah! This was the only one I could get that close to!
Last weekend, I went back by myself, hoping to see the fall Flower Walk now accompanied by some autumnal trees. Unfortunately, this was not to be—it seems they jumped straight from fall to Christmas prep, and the Flower Walk and Idea Garden were totally desolate! (There was some sort of mum festival going on in the conservatory, but I go to botanical gardens in covid times for an outdoor experience, you know? Plus, how many mums do you really need in your life??)
Aside from some roses holding on for dear life, these were the only flowers I saw:
There wasn’t a ton of foliage either, but there were these leaves at least…
…and this tree…
…complete with squawking geese….
I was pretty bummed about the lack of flowers, but then I found this array tucked off in a secluded corner!!
When I asked Kristin’s mom what this awesome cotton candy grass thing is, she guessed Muhly grass, which I’d never heard of, but seems correct and looks really freaking cool!
